"...ALA is so much more than just a classroom."

I wish someone would have told me that ALA is so much more than just a classroom. My experience with the Association Leadership Academy went far beyond simply attending presentations or joining breakout discussions. It became about building relationships that truly transformed my day-to-day work.

One memorable connection happened during a lively marketing session, where I met the presenter, Mike DiFrisco, who became a trusted sounding board on a variety of topics, many not even related to marketing. He was always generous with his time and advice, offering real, actionable solutions to the challenges I faced, from planning annual meetings to dealing with IT, HR matters, and board governance.

What really left an impression was his willingness to think outside the box. He introduced me to another industry expert who helped me identify—and ultimately solve—complex, expensive problems the organization I was a part of was struggling with. Within weeks, that introduction turned into a partnership that I am grateful for and one that I know will yield some good results. Our team is impressed, and they would all like to meet Mike from WSAE. I say, “I’m not sharing…” or ..”go to ALA..”

I’m grateful to the ALA for connecting me with mentors who truly go the extra mile. The support doesn’t stop when the session ends; it endures in the relationships you build. Some mentors, like Mike, stay with you for life!
